Gitane Professional Racing Team 2010: Saur-Sojasun
2010 marked the return of Gitane to professional bicycle racing in Europe with the Saur-Sojasun team. The team is a pro "continental" squad and hopes to gain an invitation to major races...like the Tour de France.
With an all-French lineup and former Tour stage winner Jimmy Casper on board, the goal should be in reach. Casper's leadout train includes the main man Jimmy Engoulvent behind Cyril Lemoine, Stéphane Poulhiès and Rony Martias. Jonathan Hivert, Jerome Coppel, and Sebastien Joly will be the men for the GC in the stage races, but honestly the fate of the team rests in Casper's hands, barring anything unforseen or some real breakout performances. The team plans to contest the Tour of Qatar and the Tour of Oman in early 2010 in order to get the leadout firing on all cylinders.
Gitane supplied the team with its new "Definitive" Gitane ISP (integrated seat post) machine which they call "The One." The time trial bikes are rebadged Bianchis. The team gets its own custom white finish. It is unclear whether these will be available to the public.
