Short story long, rather than ship my bike from CA to MA for summer vacations, I am going bike shopping. I figured that this was a good opportunity to contact Jean-Pierre Derrier and see what a new Gitane will set me back.

Anybody price these out lately? I am looking at the DREAM ON 105 COMPACT.

We'll see where this goes...

Jean Pierre is great. you will have to wire him the money through your shop. Be sure to let him know that you found him through this site, and say "hello" from me (Stephan)!

Also, that would probably be the only one in the USA...or North America...or the Americas, for that matter!

Todd,
Ah, maybe two. Per the Velo-Oxygen website:www.velo-oxygen.fr, the Definitive-Gitane 105 Compact lists for 1,949 Euros. As of 04/18/09, the conversion to U.S. Dollars works out to $2,538.96.

Peter-

Small world. I am in Roseville. I never got an email back from the shop in France. I am going to send another note. You do any of the group rides in the area?

Todd,
Assuming that you sent the inquiry to the correct e-mail address; my theory is; a. Like all of us, he may just be busy or; b. If the inquiry was sent in English, he might be scrambling for a translation to French and vice versa. He should respond, but, of course, time (in your case) might be of the essence.

Great to have a Gitane neighbor so close. Roseville is a fine town. I guess that I'm not a teen ager! I've been riding solo (except for when my riding partners get off their k------s). Would sure like to get together with you one of these days. I am sure that Jean-Pierre will respond in due course.
Best of Luck,
Peter H.

I used (what remains) of my three years of French from HS and then used some translation web app to validate what I had written. We'll see what happens.

All good things take time.
