This one was obtained from fellow GitaneUSA list-member Lofter. Many thanks! I built it for my wife...as it is a bit small for me.

Here is the great part of the story, and how things fell into place. Lofter had the frame, but the number tab was "missing", and the down tube, seat tube, and head tube decals were either really faded (i.e. white) or missing altogether, as were the Columbus decals.

At about the same time, a friend in France sent me some NOS decals...but only had the head tube and downtube/seat tube decals! How is that for coincidence! So the fork decals and chainstay decal were good to go...

Then, a few weeks later, I was searching for a French Columbus decal, and what do you know...the guy from France comes through again with a NOS decal! Amazing! So the only thing that needs to be replaced are the brakes (not SR), and the Columbus fork decal, which is an Italian repro.

I used the stem on this bike because it is too short for me anyways, and I wanted to use it on something! I think it looks good enough....

I scanned the NOS decal, sent a copy of the scan to the decal guy in ozzieland. You should email him and ask him to produce some copies. Or, if you want to make one yourself, I could always send the scan to you....

Great job Stephan and I love the '88 stem.

Nice to see the Wolber rims, which make in to very strong wheels.

Wisey: Just because someone has a bike...doesn't necessarily mean they ride it! Rolling Eyes

My wife informs me that I can purchase the Holden after I get her the VW Bus she has been wanting. What is wrong with the bicycle, I ask? There's just no pleasing some people! Wink

Wisey,

I didn't catch this part, I was distracted by the beach scene below it. Laughing

Hey, the grass is aways greener, but... happy horses don't jump the fence.

If push comes to shove, you could always come back with "Gawd I'm gonna miss you". It never works but it sounds cool... Cool

Chas.

PS: any word on the French Columbus decals?
