Lug questions

Hey, Gitane-iacs,

I was looking over my bike this morning and noticed a "72" stamped on the lug that joins top tube to head tube. Does the 72 indicate the head tube angle? Something else?

Thanks.

Is it on all the lugs (at work now so can't go look), or just that one?

What???!!!! You boys don't have a Gitane at work??!!!
My Defi takes me to work most days (when it's not pouring rain like today).
Only problem is I don't have internet access...................

BTW - I went to visit a guy I know called Darrell McCulloch who builds Llewellyn frames. He's kinda like the aussie version of Richard Sachs. His website is www.llewellynbikes.com

Have a look at his T-shirts. "Show us ya Lugs"

You are ever the funny one, Down Under guy. There are plenty of guys talking about Llewellyn (how do you spell it) on the serotta.com/forum. Check it out.

I think you've just coined a new word Gumby Gitane. Better call the Oxford Dictionary people, huh?

Hey lofter, you like the lugs? I think I'm gonna buy the T-Shirt. It even has Llewellyn (the frog) on it.

I'd really like to get Darrell to build me one of his TT bikes (ala delta baby), but it's more than a few grand, and a nine month wait at the moment!

Yep. "61" on the head tube/downtube lug. that's on the frame in my office (I forgot, that I actually have one hanging in the office).

Yep. Forgot that I have two frames hanging behind me on the wall...interestingly enough....

One is a 1985/6 Gitane "Professionnel" frame.
The other is a 2004 Gitane "Airplane", on which I was riding when a car was driven through me...or did I go through the car??? I don't remember....

Well, now I have homework as I couldn't locate the seat tube lug number on mine. Old eyes I guess.

The French made Bocama brand lugs have the tube angles stamped into them but that's no guarantee that the actual frame angles are the same as the lugs. There's some leeway in construction and the tubes cane be moved around before brazing.
