I'm having trouble deciding what to do with my Green Paris-Nice.

It was a mid-range touring bike in original condition, but it will not be possible to restore it to original as getting those parts would be almost impossible even if I knew exactly what they were, and I don't.

So, can anyone offer me a suggestion? How should I build this baby?
No, I'm not turning it into a fixie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NICE! (pun intended)... what's missing as far as parts? those downtube shifters look cool - what are they?

do you have pix showing more of the frame - how are the decals on there?

put a basket on the handlbars and use it as your groceries bike! (green... veggies... right?)

Thanks edub

I'll put a full frame pic on here soon. The decals are pretty battered. I've been looking into getting re-prints, but most printers aren't interested- even if I order 100 sets!!!! (Hey Stephan, have you had any luck?)

As for parts, the bits that I have which are original are:

Mafac brake calipers & levers - working but levers very scratched
Simplex derailleurs - neither in working condition, but easy to get on ebay
Stem is original

Bike came with very old shimano 600 cranks - anyone need a set?

The shifters you noted are actually really old shimano 105 friction - before it was called 105. But it was the model below 600 at the time.
I have the derailleurs too. (as a matter of trivia - the front der. is on my "defi" working perfectly with Ultegra 9 speed STI shifters!!!! - how much have shimano changed the design over the years, really!!!)

As for the basket...... our fruit & veg shop is just around the corner with no real hills in between (very rare for the city of Brisbane) - so maybe I could do a grocery fixie??!!!

For those who are interested.......

The 2 old battered bikes in my collection are under renovation. Yes, you read that correctly, renovation - not restoration.

Both bikes were in poor enough condition that to leave them in original condition would be to encourage them to rust out. Not to mention a sizable dent in the Paris-Nice.

In the last few months I have purchased an oxy/propane set up and have been learning how to braze frames. Now I have begun work on these two frames.

The 74 Paris-Nice has had the stamped rear dropouts replaced with track tips and will be a fixie. Biddon mounts have also been added, and a new brake bridge as the original was badly twisted and rusted.

The 85 Defi will be my ride to UNI bike. I have replaced the Vitus dropouts and re-spaced to 130mm. New cable guides as the internal brake cable line was rusted out, new biddon bosses on the seat tube, and replaced the old shifter bosses with fancy new STI style cable guided on the down tube.

I've got 70's repro decals for both, as the "spotty" decals from tthe 80's are not available, and don't look as nice as the old 70's anyway.
