just finished cleaning up cycle all original parts except tyres and brooks b17 ive added. any ideas on model appreciated thanks

hi bowser , welcome . nobody answered your last post i see so let me say sorry bout that.your bike looks like a 83 gran sport by the paint and decals .you can pretty much match it to the picture on the catalog .although after looking at the catalog it came with stronglight and simplex componets. it maybe a year earlier but i dont know since we dont have a catalog from 80-82. the only thing i see different is the deraileur cable stop is on the top of the chain stay on yours and on the bottom of the stay in the catalog . also yours has clamp on shifters were the catalog looks like maybe it has a braze on for the shifters . other than that bud, id say there the same .same decals ,same paint.i just wish we had those elusive catalogs  just to be certain. again sorry for not answering your previous post. |

hi lofter thanks for your reply
the guy i obtained the bike from bought it new in 1981. the decals etc look same as catalouge on site
the gran sport shown is listed as being built with high tensile steel tubes
my frame is vitus 971 double butted as are forks making it very light
although it does have mudguard eyes brazed on
maybe the bikes for the european market where different from the U.S.
if i can find any info on european gitanes i will let you know

ps the bike rides very nicely too just took it out for a quick spin !!
and by the way the cats not dead just sleeping! |
