Hello,

I'm seeking some advice on how to restore my early 70s Gitane Interclub?

It was highly modified circa 1974-76, and stored for the last 36 years.

I'd like get some feedback on what parts to use to being this back to an enjoyable ride. Also on any tips on how get it re painted or modified. Also, not sure if I can even find tires for these rims today. Or should I just buy new wheels? Or can you find the right size these days?

Looks like you have a 1970-72 Interclub. The 2 most important components of a bike are the frame and wheels. These determine the ride and handling qualities.

Interclubs from that era had frames made of everything from low strength "gas pipe" carbon steel to lighter weight tubes and even Durifort tubing.

Tubing made of higher strength alloy steels like Reynolds 531 is thinner and thus makes a lighter frame. Weight is not the issue but the springiness of the frame.

On larger sized frames it's not such a big deal.

The Interclub was Gitane's amateur racing model so it should ride and handle very well.

I'll add more later...
