I bought this bike from a former ambassador from France. I was not quite cleared up about the model.
I searched, but I did not find this model in any catalog.
Can you help me and tell me what model I bought? The bike is over 30 years old.

The code under the bike:

VITUS

The Gitane decals place it somewhere between 1980 and 1983. We're missing some catalogs from those years.

It was most likely a lower priced performance model made for the French market.

Huret and Simplex derailleurs were used interchangeably on Gitane back then.

Looks a lot like a 1980 San Remo # 3806

Should be a fun bike to ride.

Gitane AEROTUB 102 was lighter weight carbon steel tubing similar to Peugeot's CARBOLITE 103.

More expensive models used Reynolds 531, Columbus or Super Vitus tubing which was stronger and lighter weight.

I bought it specifically in Lille, a city in northern France.
It may be brought in the UK?
It may be a British model?
I'll keep looking ...

I'll look for catalogs from the period 1980 to 1983. The missing.

Anyway, thanks very much for the information.

And indeed it is an incredible bike. We already have almost 1200 km. It is perfect. I did not do any adjustment. I just changed the brake cables (the red one) but I have the original and are black.

Very Happy

Since it's an incredible bike, take the time to clean and lube the bearings, chain, etc. and keep it great for many km and years.
