Hi,
I'm trying to identify this frame definitively. Obviously it's been repainted and, as far as I can tell, all of the original components have been replaced. My guess is that this is a 1985 Gitane Performance, but I'm not certain. The scratchy seatpost seems to be numbered 26.2mm -- which is what was spec'd in the catalog for the '85 Columbus Aelle Performance. (Did any other similar models use a 26.2mm seatpost?) But I'm not sure if the fork crown is Vitus Arcor Microfusion, which was spec'd on the '85 Performance? It has all the other hallmarks of both the Performance and Defi: internal brake cable routing, Vitus dropouts and bb shell cable guide, cutout lugs and a single bottle braze on. I can't really tell what the original paint color might've been, but there does seem to be some white and possibly gray (primer?) on it.
So can anyone help me identify this frame once and for all? |

| Well, for anyone that happens to find this thread, I never did definitively figure out whether my frame was a Performance or a Defi. No matter though, it rides great. And by the way, if you're looking to re-cable a mid-80s Gitane with internal routing here's some good news: mine had a guide inside the top tube so no fishing was required. |

For a definitive answer we need to see pictures of the bike, especially the right side.
