I just posted some pictures of my 1984 Tour de France on Flickr:

I bought this bike on eBay back in 2007. I made some modifications to the components but never rode it much.

I had it out today and it rides like a dream. I've been riding sewups on my 1969 TdF lately and the old 700x20c Specialized tires on this 1984 TdF have the same "skippy" feeling.

I have 700x25c tires on my 1984 Super Corsa and they give a softer ride but...

From the photos:"Frame made of Super Vitus 983 tubing. Bike weighs under 22 Lbs. with 700x20c clinchers."

That's pretty impressive with clinchers. Specialized doesn't seem to have a 700cx20 these days, but they have a 180g 700x21, and people seem to describe the ride of their better tires in terms you would associate with tubulars.

The advertized weight for a 57cm size frame 1984 TdF was 22.5 Lbs so "under 22 Lbs." is not too far out of line. Wink

Super Vitus 983 was very light tubing. SV 980 was even lighter.

The Specialized tires measure an actual 20mm. They have a very thin casing and tread combined with light weight tubes. That puts them in the range of general purpose sewups.
