It's not for everyone living in VT. One of the good things in people all through history have loved bikes in this state. We had a velodrome just 20 miles from here in Brattleboro in 1910. Velonews was founded by a guy who lived near here. I find a lot of nice road bikes around here and at prices I can afford.

This is the c1970 TDF I got a couple of days ago. I would like to build it up "per spec".

I have it apart at this and am happy with the condition of the parts. Very little use but lot's of dirt. The derailleurs are both in good shape and not cracked. I was able to save the wrecked 14mm threads in the right crank with a 9/16 tap. I had a set of 25c pedals from a Raleigh with 9/16 threads.

If you have one of these, what seat post did it come with?

I am really excited about this bike. It's low-miles and no big dents.

thanks for lookin, F

Ok, between the tandem and this I think I'm starting to get a little jealous of your Gitane "scores".

Are you going to stick with the barcons or go with downtube shifters?

Looks like tubulars - I'd definitely keep those. Are they Super Champion?

It's been a lucky season for me for sure. There are a lot of bikes around here waiting to be found. Most have straight-blocks, tubulars and Brooks saddles. I use all that stuff.

I will look around a bit for some Simplex barcons and see how that goes. The rims are Mavic monthlery and the hubs are nuovo tipo.

I got it stripped last night and will bathe it properly today.

I have "most" of a simplex seat pillar but those are getting very hard to find.

15 bucks, you're kidding me right? Really, .. and for the price of 3 cafe lattés, you find an awesome bicycle. Well done!

I live in Rural VT. I am not sure why there are so many nice bikes around here but there seems to be. Usually not over $100

You can see more here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/52448896@N08/

But, I know you would rather see the Gitane again a bit cleaned up. Something inspired me to do something a bit different this time. I didn't do anything but clean the parts, remove rust an foreign matter. I returned a couple of pieces to original (or pretty close) and the cable housings and tape aren't original. I lubed everything and replaced damaged bearings and straightened the frame, fork, wheels and handlebars. I will ride it a little, perhaps 200 miles a year.

Just like Sandranian, I'm very jealous!

Wish I could find a deal just halfway close to that.

Awesome bike!
