This is my recently purchased Gitane, I believe it to be a 1985 model, it is mostly original I believe but I am still researching what does and doesnt belong and then hopefully sourcing the correct parts. It is a beautiful ride and I hope you all like.

Nice - I've always had a hankering for the yellow saddle.

What are the components on the bike - I notice a Nervar crankset.

Peter, welcome to the forum, I've possibly mislabeled my Performance as an
'86. But your on target as a 85, or 86 model. Looks like this Vintage ride is in great shape. Although I enjoy my '70s Gitanes. I really like the ride of the '87 Victoire and '86 Performance---and so do my sons. When I get back home later this weekend I'll try to compare and forward images. I can't recall for sure, but I think I recall Wisey had or has a similar model in his stable.

I Like Steel !!!!

The bike is in great shape for one that is closing in on 30 years old. It has a few minor scratches but that is what you expect when you use it for its intended purpose.
Parts list is as follows,
Seat: Yellow Selle San Marco Laser.
Seatpost: Unsure of brand but has 2 letters in cursive script that are either G.I or G.P??? on the back of the post.
Stem is 110mm with no visible markings and bars are 400mm ctc with no visible markings. Needs new tape so will keep posted if brand found.
Drivetrain is Simplex derailleurs front and rear, Simplex shifters and Nervar crankset, 52&42 chainrings.
Brakeset: Modolo Sporting calipers and levers.
Cobra Bidon cage and bottle.
Rear hub 36h Normandy Luxe Competition laced to a Kinlin Racing T10 with unknown tyre.
Front hub 36h Normandy Luxe Competition laced to a Mavic Module 'E', front tyre Michelin 700x20c BIB or BTB(hard to tell) TS20.
Quick release are Spidel.
Pete.

Hi Peter. I always liked the green performance model, but never had one. I have 2 victoires and a defi. The Mavic Module E rims would have been original. I am pretty sure that the performance had yellow Benotto or Cateye plastic bar tape like the upper models. The lower models like my victoires had cloth tape. These 1985 bikes were still being sold here in Australia in 1987 and 88. I'm not sure if they just had unsold stock here (lots of it) or if the importer bought up the last of the old stock from the manufacturer.
Cheers, Wisey (in Bris-Vegas)

Thanks for the info guys. As stated the bar tape needs replacing and as Wisey has said, Benotto tape was used so I have purchased some NOS Yellow Benotto bar tape. The pedals are currently just unbranded road pedals so I will keep my eyes open for something more period correct. I think I am right by saying Maillard pedals are original but I dont know how hard these are to track down. Pete.

If you've never wrapped bars with benotto, ask here before you do...there are some "tricks" to getting it right!
