I found this very cute Gitane bike at a second hand store some days ago. I think it had a lot of love from its previous owner but it could use a little more. I will spend the following days/weeks getting it back on the road, and in the meantime i'll hopefully find the name of this model. It has the words "supersonic" and "superieur" on the frame but i'm not sure if that really is the name of this darling.

I'm Ingrid from the netherlands and I'm glad i found out about this site!

if you like, i'll post more pictures later on.

Hi Ingrid, and welcome.

Check out the 1973 Aubisque and Tourmalet in the catalogue section of this site. There is nothing about the 'supersonic', but it looks like the bike.

Hi, and thanks! I looked through the catalogues before but must have missed it. It looks like my bike is one of those, it has the same chain case thingie. (sorry i need to learn bike parts in english!) I think it's the aubisque (5 vitesses) but without the luggage rack on the front (it has some eyelets below the saddle where the other luggage rack must have been connected to)

there's a "cortina" sticker on the front splash guard (?). perhaps previous owner's creativity...

Ford used to make a Cortina car here in the 60's & 70's. (???) Laughing

I go to some vintage races every summer and a Cortina is always out on the course. Slower than anything and some serious leaning in the corners. I've never checked the size of the forearms of the driver but they've got to be huge.

In fact, he usually drives the car to the race and then right onto the track for his laps.

A cortina car! I never thought of that. I know it's a bicycle manufacturer as well, but as far as i know has nothing to do with gitane. i added a photo of the cortina sticker and some other details.
