Jimmy Engoulvent won the prologue today, taking the first leader's jersey in the Tour of Luxembourg. GREAT RESULT, and really a bit of a surprise, at least to me! Not so much of a surprise to others, as he had won the same prologue in 2007, apparently.

Even more surprising: Cyril Lemoine (2nd) & Jimmy Casper (4th) both finished in the top five. Crazy day, eh?

Prologue Results:
1 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:03:41.990
2 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:00:08.140
4 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:00:09.010
45 Cyril Bessy (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:00:20.150
51 Romain Matheou (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:00:21.450
65 Cédric Coutouly (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:00:24.310
67 Rony Martias (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:00:24.430
95 Fabrice Jeandesboz (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:00:28.300

General Classification:
1 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur-Sojasun 0:03:42

They can sprint...not time trial!

or:

As long as the total effort takes less than 4 minutes and everyone uses standard road bikes, our team are among the best time trialers in the world!

Or... Cleverness still pays.

It appears that there was a small cobblestones section on top of thé climb of the ITT.

Given the short distance, most big teams did not pay attention to the track... But there was a short passage free of cobs on the side of the road. It's subtle because as more and more people gathered on the road, soon the passage was hidden from view... Except if you had done your homework before.

And... Still due to the shortness of the stage, that few seconds spared here were sufficient to make a difference.

Congrats to our boys for not giving up and keep fighting !

The multiple high-placing paid off for Saur-Sojasun today. Although we didn't win the sprint, and overall leader Jimmy Engoulvent was gapped out at the end and lost 39 seconds (and his overall lead), we still had Cyrile Lemoine sitting second. He managed to finish with the lead group, and therefore is now leading the Tour on the GC. On a negative note, we lost one rider today....

Jimmy Engoulvent enjoys his day in Yellow.

Jimmy E., Cyrile, and Jimmy C. joke around prior to Stage 1.

Bravo Cyrile! And to think that he wasn't even on the original Saur start list!

Stage 1 Results:
1 Giovanni Visconti (Ita) ISD - Neri 4:29:55
11 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun

115 Romain Matheou (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
116 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun

After two days in the lead, the big guns have fired, and Saur has been pushed down in the standings. it was bound to happen...the Schleck's racing on their own turf and this being the races most difficult stage from a geographical perspective (a 3 lap circuit, with a huge climb on each lap -- apparently that is the only way to make a "tour" in Luxembourg)....

Unfortunately, a number of our riders didn't make the time cut...we are now down to 4 riders.

Stage 2 Results:
1 Fränk Schleck (Lux) Team Saxobank 5:10:38
33 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:58
64 Cyril Bessy (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:05:33
96 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:09:43
102 Fabrice Jeandesboz (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
HD Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:17:10
HD Rony Martias (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
HD Romain Matheou (Fra) Saur - Sojasun

Overal Classification:
1 Matteo Carrara (Ita) Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team 9:44:30
9 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:51
59 Cyril Bessy (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:06:25
74 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:10:06
85 Fabrice Jeandesboz (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:10:43

A fitting end to Saur's race, which started so well: Thunderstorms caused the promoters to cancel part of the last stage, nullifying all of the time gaps in the race. Only Jimmy Engoulvent finished the race.

Quite honestly, this race was a major success for Saur. The only negative to take from this is that our guys seemed to lack some stamina. But that may be reading a bit too much into it, as we targeted the stages where we could do well...and did well in those stages. Next stop: Dauphine!

Stage 4 Results:
1 Gorka Izaguirre (Spa) Euskatel - Euskadi 3:01:23
5 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
DNF Cyril Bessy (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
DNF Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
DNF Fabrice Jeandesboz (Fra) Saur - Sojasun

Final General Classification:
1 Matteo Carrara (Ita) Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team 17:43:21
68 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:16:56
