I'll second that! Indeed a striking red finish, a wonderful find and opportunity.

I know this site is for Gitane only but here's some sources of information about Helyett that I thought would be interesting to add as their histories have been joined at some point.
Besides, you'll also find Gitane related photos and information (most of you certainly already know those sites/galleries).

From Emiles Arbes a french collector who owns not only top of the line machines, mostly french, but pedigreed ones such as Bernard Hinault's Gitane :
Emile Arbes' velo-Helyett-1960
Emile Arbes' velo-gitane-annee-1981

From Cyclecrank, apparently living in France and owning a few french über rarities :
Cyclecrank's Helyett

From Stronglight in Austin, Texas, a very very very nice gallery too :
Stronglight's Helyett
Stronlight's Gitane Piste

Hope you like it
Karl

Karl,
Thank you for the links. Interesting how the early Helyett metal head badge is very much like the early Gitane badge.

Your Helyett would certainly relate to Gitane and I am glad you have posted this information for the members of this Site. It is part of the History of Gitane bicycles.

Regards,
Jay

For those of you who don't know, a Gitane is a Gypsy woman in French.

From nowhere through a caravan
Around the campfire light
A lovely woman in motion
With hair as dark as night
Her eyes were like that of a cat in the dark
That hypnotize me with love

She was a gypsy woman
She was a gypsy woman

She danced around and round to a guitar melody
From the fire her face was all aglow
How she enchanted me
Oh how I’d like to hold her near
And kiss and forever whisper in her ear

I love you gypsy woman

All through the caravan
She was dancing with all the men
Waiting for the rising sun
Everyone was having fun

I hate to see the lady go
Knowing she’ll never know
That I love her

She was a gypsy woman
A gypsy woman
A gypsy woman
A gypsy woman
