So myself and another guy that I know (who found me through this site) in Southern California are attempting to order the new Gitane 2010 "The One" ISP frames.

We were just informed today that there is a delay in delivery until late February. I hope that is on account of high demand....

I was informed by another source that they are "made to order", which I don't think is right...otherwise, someone would have taken the order already! I think they are just backlogged.

We have confirmation from Gitane that our order has been placed, and a shipment is due this week! So...perhaps in the next three weeks or so, we will be riding our new Gitanes!

Keeping my fingers crossed....

Allegedly, the frames are ready to be shipped to me this week (both have been received by the dealer)...but I haven't gotten a confirmation that they have been shipped. This has been a very frustrating experience, and I am hoping that it all turns out well. I receive emails that go like this:

Q: "Have the frames been ordered?"

A: "Your frame have been ordered in three weeks."

The language barrier has been a problem, and something is clearly lost in translation. I am getting nervous at this point that the transaction may fall through. I paid for these over a month ago....

Keeping fingers crossed, and trying not to get negative. I understand that Cycleurope has not been able to meet demand on these.

My Gitane arrived...the size 55...today.

However, my friend's frameset was returned to the shipper, for whatever reason! Now they are resending it. The entire process is friggin maddening, but at least the one has arrived.

It came with headset bearings and spacers, saddle mount (it is the ISP version), a ISP cutting jig, and seatpost spacers (20mm max).

The finish is beautiful: Standard Taiwan fare. The interesting thing is that it includes a sticker that says "made in france" , but the shipping box clearly came from Taiwan.

Made in France.

There is a rule that says that you can put "Made in....." if 60% or more of the final value is added in the final location of production. This is how a fancy Italian brand can have frames produced in China. The frames are finished and have the base coat of paint applied. They are then shipped to Italy where the decals and final paint is added. Thus a $1000 Chinese frame becomes a $3000 Italian frame. So, "made in....." is a bit of a grey area in reality. The boxes are probably standardised for all the cheaper bikes and I bet those ones have a Made in Taiwan sticker on them.

Of course, some of the best carbon bikes in the world actually come out of Taiwan and China. The days of those bikes being junk are long gone. I bet we start seeing cheap Indian bikes pretty soon.

Wisey,

I agree, the quality from Asia is superb. No doubt about that.

Here's what's on offer from Asian manufacturers, plus others too - http://tinyurl.com/y6qjxtu

Stephan, great news about the bike, look forward to reading about the ride.

Tim

Glad that The One (pun intended, sorry) arrived in fine shape. This should be a great Gitane! It is a combination of great French design and fine Tiwanese build quality. The design seems typically French; i.e. French modern plus the frame geometry ((72.5 and 73.5 degrees (head tube and seat tube, respectively)) and relatively short head tube (140 mm.) that we are well accustomed to. All quoted figures are for a 55 cm. frame. Add D.A.-10, 3TTT, Lightweight wheels (or whatever equipment is deemed appropriate) and it's the road to Roubaix in 2011 (and/or local races).
Bienvenue,
Peter H.

The 61cm frameset arrived yestereday...intact. Finally, the order is complete. When all was said and done, Laurent at http://www.cr2v.com/ was a man of his word and got the frames to us as quickly as he could. the communication could have been a bit better, but I chalk it up to (1) language and (2) culture differences: As an American, I am naturally more impatient or something similar.

Again, the frames are kick-ass. I highly recommend them.
