I remember the Simplex Spidel seatposts of that era. They were "Lost Wax" forged...pretty crude from what I recall. I think that I'll keep the one Japanese component. Molten aluminum is injected into the mold at high pressure. Far different from true forging. Before I get side tracked, really nice bike. What kind of headset is that, a Stronglight? I need to start working on putting together may 1984 Team Pro. I have a NOS 1980s Simplex alloy seat post but I'm a little leary about using it. I'll probably use Spidel badged Stronglight 105bis cranks because I can run a 37T or 38T small chainring. I have some Mafac LS2 side pull brakes which I'll probably use instead of Modolos. That's less than half the price several sellers are asking for used A9 headsets. PM me and I'll send you the eBay link. When I first saw one of these headsets and disassembled it to repack the bearings, I thought they were really cheap! I have several of them that came on old bikes and frames I've acquired and they work very well and are long lasting. _________________ Chas. Will need to open it up and check the bearings. It's just so striking. And I agree with the derailleurs - very nice. I'm back on the hunt for 1 or 2 more and am always checking out good photos of the Simplex equipment.
