Hi - Finally getting a chance to upload some photos of my new TDF. This bike was sent along by forum member Squadra (thanks John!) It is out having the wheels tuned up at the shop; can't wait to get it back and put some miles on it. I owned an Interclub back in 1974 and rekindled an interest in finding a Gitane after discovering this site. Any information or advice about this model is appreciated. I'm in the SF Bay area. Nice looking TdF... and BTW, welcome to the forum.
My guess is that it's a 1973-74 model. Foil decal TdFs were available well into 1974 after which the newer version TdFs took over.
Gitane started shipping TdFs with Sugino Mighty Competition cranksets around 1973. They were probably having difficulty getting Stronglight model 93 cranks at the time.
Gitane went back to Stronglight cranks on the new style 1974-75 model TdFs. The Bike Boom was over and availability probably improved.
The Sugino Mighty Competition cranksets were very good quality Campagnolo knockoffs, maybe the first ones from Japan. The chainrings are 144mm BCD and interchange with Campy's and any of the other copycat cranks.
