What did you think of Contador giving the stage to the Schleck's in exchange for them riding hard to the finish to put time into people? While sound strategic advise, I would love to hear Hinault's take on it. For some reason, I don't see Hinault making that deal. Quite frankly, I don't think the Schleck's should have made it either. If one had attacked, the other could have just followed Contador's wheel. He would have been forced to do more work to limit the damage, and the other Schleck could have countered. They could have perhaps done at least some damage, but perhaps they wouldn't have made so much time on Armstrong & Co. I guess that was what the Schleck's were thinking: Prevent Kodi and Armstrong from getting back at all costs, and Contador was all too willing to throw those two (Koni & Armstrong) under the bus. I guess turnabout is fair play!

Granted it was a downhill, but I would like to see a real race!

I agree Sandman. It looks like we've gone back to the bad old days when everyone was focused on their podium because they couldn't beat Lance. This was Saxo racing against Wiggins rather than trying to win they race. The added benefit for them was that they got rid of LA and then Klodi as well. So, it worked brilliantly. Byt they showed that they are too weak minded to do anything except lick the scraps from the floor beneath the king's table.

Amazing ride from everyone today, and over the past three weeks. Loved every minute of the stage and all performances. For me, every rider was magnificent. To have got to the top of Mt Ventoux, let alone within the cut off time, is a huge achievement.

I've really enjoyed the 2009 edition but am always sad when the event comes to an end - roll on tomorrow and 2010...

Hats off too to all those who completed the Etape du Tour on July 20th.

Tim

3rd place in the TDF ...

Lance was in the mix of it all day on Ventoux!

7 firsts and 1 third - not bad for an old man... Cool

Bummer for Tyler. I was kind of hoping he would pull it off in Paris, but Cav is just unstoppable this year. Next year Tyler. Start sharpening those legs on Monday.

I agree. I think with a little more experience he will do better. He's definitely fast. It seemed to me that the Garmin teammates just weren't quite as skilled or aggressive in the lead out and Tyler often found himself in a less than advantageous position to start his sprint.

It didn't take long for the knives to come out after the tour (regarding Contador/Armstrong). Contador is right, in a way, but shouldn't criticize the team that sat on the front for 1/2 of the race while he was in yellow. Also...he WON the tour. Time to be gracious and take the high road. Let Lance whine about stuff...Contador won the friggin tour de france!

I guess he is just young, and will hopefully hire the right person (me) to handle the press.

I agree regarding Lance, but you have to admit that he was kind of a rat bastard during the race. All of that being said, Contador should really behave better. I guess he thinks that the team would have ridden in front anyways???

Sounds like AC might have a little issue with authority figures... Laughing

Do you think AC would have done as well without LA that close behind him?

Think of it as LA herding cats.. Wink

What do you mean "as well"? I don't think there was any stopping him this year, but certainly without a great team to manage the pack, he would have had a much harder time of it.

I think the difference is that LA used the media as just another weapon against his rivals (including AC) just as he always did. Like LeMond and Fignon trading insults in 89. AC is just not a very sophisticated thinker. This shows in his race tactics and his comments in the media.

I get the feeling that LA was very satisfied with 3rd place whereas AC would have been very unhappy.

Chas. Older is better!
