Morning all,
Iīm currently time trialling and doing triathlon on this bike, I think itīs a 1995 model year.

The Mavic Cosmic Expert clincher wheels set is a later addition. Itīs a lot of fun to ride.

In action:

Barchettaman,

Very nice bike and welcome to the site.

It looks like a fast and light ride and may be earlier than 1995, by a year or two but that's just a guess on my part.

Thanks for posting.

Tim

Nice. Looks like a play on the RMO paint scheme of the early 1990's....

Thanks for the compliments. Itīs proved a solid bike, and a really good buy.
I based the 1995 model year going by the catalogue posted online here - there is a similar Mach 310 there, although mine had DT shifters rather than the bar ends / aero bars pictured in the catalogue.
Itīs a bit different to the standard time trial / triathlon bikes you see here and gets a bit of attention. And itīs wonderfully satisfying to go past new CF bikes on semi-vintage steel!

I would imagine this bike was fairly radical in its day - shame that the modern Gitanes donīt offer a tri/TT frame nowadays, barring the odd ex-pro frame that crops up on french eBay.

Many of the carbon techies, who are so prominent in the TT/tri world, tend to overlook one of the more important pieces on their bikes: The engine.

Even most of the Profies overlook that simple fact. Aerodynamics of the machine means very little compared to the aerodynamics of the rider. Then the aerodynamics of the rider mean very little if the rider cannot produce power. Two notable exceptions to this ignorance of the Pro peleton are Messers Indurain and Armstrong. Their aerodynamic sacrifices didn't seem to slow them down much.

Lovely bike Barchettaman. Good to see someone being competitive on a traditional steel bike. Keep it up!

With all due respect Wisey..."traditional steel bike"??? Ahhhh...no. That's a "Moser machine" if ever there was one! This is a traditional steel bike:

Now, 'that' is a Moser Machine... Twisted Evil

OK, OK, I will amend my statement......... a lugged steel TT bike of traditional construction, if not design. Lawyers! Rolling Eyes Wink

What's missing? Hmmm, carbon fibre bottle cage?

or, could it be:

Itīs a īMoser machineīin the sense that the frame geometry seems to be inspired by the īfunny bikesī of the ī80s. But not, in the sense that both wheels are 28". Which also makes it legal over here (Iīve seen in regs that bikes with wheels of unequal sizes are no longer allowed).

In any case Iīve had a lot of fun updating it over the winter, and continue to enjoy riding it. Thanks all again for the positive comments.

Iīm keeping an eye out on ebay.fr for that Gitane TT frame that was for sale at the end of last year - think it was a 2001 Gitane team issue. It was up for €300, which seemed a bit steep, but if it returns at a reasonable price that could be my next build.
