I don't know much about road bikes or Gitanes in general, but I was quite excited when a friend of mine gave me a 1970's Gitane TDF. I'm unsure if all the componets are stock, but the bike seems to be in good condition. I live in Portland, Oregon and would like to use the TDF as a commuter bike. Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the Gitane USA forum.

Good Fortune, Good Luck, Good Karma---a great looking early '70's TdeF, that seems to have come from a good home. The previous owner apparently took excellent care and maintenance of this ride.

It should provide many hours of reliable transportation---Enjoy!!

I Like Steel !!!

Beautiful bike!

The only components that jump out at me as non-original are the wide-ratio freewheel and the Suntour (I guess) rear derailleur to shift it. They are a more practical choice for commuting or touring than the original close ratio freewheel would have been.

Enjoy!

Very nice looking bike. I'm sure you will enjoy riding it.

Nice looking bike. Is it red? Red and copper where not very common colors for TdFs.

I guesstimate that it's a late 1973 model: Bocama lugs, Sugino Mighty Compe cranks and Pivo recessed bolt stem. Would have originally had sewups.

This bike is in such nice original condition for being 35 years old, it's a shame to use it for commuting in the rain. I'd get a cheap beater or fixie and save this one for nice rides. JMO

The paint looks more of an orange color, a red and orange mix. I sure wont ride it in the rain, but I do plan to use it during the dry months on my 4 mile trek to work. After a lube and a tune, as well as tires, it should be ready for the road. Thanks for the comments.
