Hi all, just found this forum as I've been researching about gitane. I just bought an all carbon gitane(mach 2000 I think) from the LBS. its just a frame, no fork but came with headset and 31.6 seatpost. I saw stephen's and seemed quite different from mine as my downtube shape bulged in the middle and his headtube has lugs wrapped around the head tube itself. see the pics. I'll post addnl pics when I build it up with parts from my CAAD5.

That is last year's model, and only appeared in the French "Velo & Oxygen Exclusive Line" catalogue, not on the regular site.

What LBS did you buy that from??? What state...what country???

It doesn't relate to this particular bike, but it seems that the 2007 models are about to hit the streets here in Oz. The magazines have pictures of the 2400 with a new paint job. Imagine mixing carbon with the white and yellow gitanes that the Toshiba team rode in 1989. Not too bad. (Yes sandman, I'm working on a catalogue for you)

Hi Stephan, I'm from the Philippines and the frame was just brought in by the importer just coz he fancied the frame. the LBS says its taiwan made though I see no identifying label. for the price(about 450usd) I believe its asian. but its about half the price for a giant carbon here in manila. this is my first carbon frame and excited about it. I've only heard of gitane from old magazine though. nice to come through this site.

The bike you have purchased was only available in select countries in Europe. Gitane still makes all of its bikes in the Machecoul factory (outside of Nantes, France)...except its carbon bikes, which are made in Taiwan and shipped to France for distribution. Also, the Gitane cycles available in Australia are all Taiwan-made (they purchased the license from Cycleurope).

Taiwan manufacturers produce about 95% of the carbon bikes available in the world, and produce some of the best bicycles available. I believe that your bike and mine are mid-range carbon frames, built under license. Your's is almost identical (or perhaps identical) to Bianchi's mid-range carbon frames (Bianchi and Gitane are owned by the same company - Cycleurope).

Gitane has a great history...it is a pity that the company has been relegated to a "second tier" brand. Cycleurope is only spending money with regards to racing on Bianchi. In the USA, Bianchi is Cycleurope's only brand. Enjoy your bike...it is truly rare everywhere besides France!

It's truly rare and perhaps one of a kind in the Philippines. Just took it for a short ride yesterday and it was amazing! much more comfy than my titanium bike(taiwan made also). I'm very happy with my gitane. here's a pic of the complete bike. I think it would look great on some aero wheels. that will be my next project. thanks! Wink

Very nicely done. I really like the cream coloured arione saddle with matching bar tape. Adds a touch of class. A modern Super Corsa? Although, I must say I really like all the shiny Dura Ace on Stephan's machine - maybe you could turn it into drillium sandman? (ok, maybe not? Laughing )
