hi

I have a 1980s vintage gitane frame, completely stripped of identifying information, so specifics will be tricky. It has super vitus tubing & a gargette french-thread bb.

I am getting a fork for this frame. Question is what rake and axle-brakemount distance do I need to get?

Anyone have a clue as to what the key measures were on the original 1980's era Gitane? I'm looking for:
1. Fork axle - brakemount distance
2. Headtube angle
3. Fork rake.

Thanks!

Regarding your questions:

(1) Brake mount distance: Should just probably be standard (short reach). I would measure the reach on the back brake, and determine it that way.

(2) Head Tube angle: See #3.

(3) Fork Rake for early 1980's: see http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/catalog/1984_pg4.jpg

Hope that helps...the catalogues are a great resource for stuff like this....
