Question Can you tell me anything about a Gitane bicycle with the decal FAUBOURG on the upper tube? It is a girl's or woman's bicycle, painted blue with Gitane Cycles decals. It is a three speed with comfort handlebars and appears to be from around the 1960's or before. The closest thing we have found to a picture is from an old Gitane poster. I am adding the links to three pictures we took of the bicycle.

We would like to restore it to its original condition, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting the pictures. It is difficult to see the decals in the pictures, which makes identification or dating the bike hard. Perhaps some close up (or closer anyways) pics of the decals or other markings would help? A picture of the head tube decal, the crankset, downtube decal, and rear derailleur. That would give the best indication of the date of manufacture....

Thank you so much for the reply. I am enclosing the links to the pictures and also to a slideshow of the pictures. If there are any more pictures you need we will be happy to take them.

Here is another closer shot of one of the decals. We noticed that it wasn't clear in the other shots. Thanks!

Thanks for all of the pictures. Definitely made it easier to narrow down, although an exact dating will be impossible at this time.

That bicycle dates from between the late 1980's (like after 1988) to approx. 1995. The decals are consistent with that era, as is the frame manufacture and components. Interesting 3 speed design, that's for sure, but not a very old or collectible bicycle. Will make for a great bike around town, though.
