With Leader on the top tube I would suspect that it's a level down from the replica model. The 94 catalogue shows it that way. Unfortunately, the 90's info here is not as available.

Looks like a nice riding bike.

Scott is probably right about the Leader model.

From the mid 80's through the early 90's Gitane produced a wide variety of models that used the same performance style frame geometries.

The frames were made with different quality tubing to match the price range. Some of the top frames where made of premium quality Columbus or Reynolds tubing.

The Gitane Vitus tubing frames were usually one tier below the Team Replica models. The better quality models "usually" had chrome plated right chain stays.

In 1990 Gitane started painting some of their bikes in a black and white "pinto pony" splash paint theme.

There was a similar frame that recently sold on French eBay for 21.73 Euros. It was a 49cm Team Replica model.

Some one had rattle can sprayed over the white paint with black. Also it had Shimano vertical dropouts whereas the OP bike has Campy horizontal dropouts.

The Vitus GTI tubing is ultra light with triple butted main tubes.

this may help you, check the post of my Replica. It was all original except for the pedals and replacement Seat and Pelton Shade bar tape. Vitus GTI and full Sachs Goupe. Nice chromed aluminum crankset (Campagnolo chromed I believe) Cheap in France and I sold it for 150 euros last year!
