I think it is a 1983 GITANE "SUPER CHALLENGE" with a triple crankset "solida" and SHIMANO derailleurs and probably a little upgrade for the brakes ('SECCON)
It is a little heavy (25 pds) but the lugless frame named "EXTRALITE" is comfortable and has a good rigidity
I bought it for is beautiful colour (BLUE GITANE) |

Pipik,
Désolé d'être le porteur de mauvaises nouvelles...
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think that it is a 1983 model.
Gitane didn't use those decals until at least 1991.
Here's my 1990's mystery team bike:
The other thing, the "SUPER CHALLENGE" models used a "claw" style rear derailleur hanger. Your bike has an integral derailleur hanger.
I suspect that your frame may be a 1985 or later model that has been resprayed.
It looks like it was assembled with a variety of decent quality parts.
What's most important is that you like the way it rides even if it is a "bâtard"
Enjoy,
Chas. |

Thank you Verktyg for your great knowledge !
I think also it is probably not a super chalenge , because it has the number under the BB identical with two other lugless frame PEUGEOT of my collection...
number of this GITANE: Y80701627
number of my 1986 PEUGEOT P10SA : Y60953539
number of my 1991 PEUGEOT "Tourmalet" :Y10808957
So, it is certainly a lugless frame built in the PEUGEOT factory of Romilly-sur-Seine and not in the historical GITANE factory of Machecoul...
I think it is probably a 1998 model, perhaps "mach 300" built by the new group formed by PEUGEOT, GITANE, BH, called CYCLEUROP , in Romilly factory where PEUGEOT invented and perfected the technique of lugless brazing.
And I can say that this GITANE frame is absolutely identical with my PEUGEOT P10SA (picture)...
