Dear Gitane enthusiasts,

can you help me to identify thise gitane frame. Rear Dropouts are from huret, front dropouts not readable.

Tubing are Reynolds 531.

Bottombracket and headset from Stronglight.

I supposed TDF Frame from 1974.

Can you tell me about the original parts, shifter, rear derailleurs, etc.

Welcome to the Forum.

The frame is a 1975 Champione Du Monde which was one step down from the top of the line Olympic and Super Olympic model and a step above the Tour de France.

The Olympic model was Campagnolo equipped but with MAFAC brakes. The Super Olympic model had Campagnolo brakes.

The Champione Du Monde had all French components. The frame is same as the Olympic models except the steerer tube is 8mm shorter to fit a Stronglight P3 headset instead of a Campy headset.

The Reynolds 531 tubing on these frames has a thinner wall thickness than the tubes used on most Reynolds frames from that era so it's lighter and smoother riding.

The bars, stem and brake levers are probably not original to the frame.

These bikes were primarily sold in the European market. Not many of them made it to the US.

One suggestion, when you post pictures, show the right side of the the frame or bike, That's were the running gear is located.

Looks to be in nice condition.
