So the sale on the Gitane fell through. I took it to the city with me (125 miles) and met with the guy. I was convinced by him through an email then a phone call that he had been looking for one of these and would indeed buy it. He was not interested in the seat so I said we could negotiate something. I foolishly deleted the CL post. I meet the guy (he was 25 minutes late), and he loves the bike. He offers me $150 without the seat. I counter with $300. He laughs and says "you are joking, right?" I said no. he goes on to list a litany of GREAT vintage CL bikes he could get for $150. All 70's gaspipe or 80's cromoly entry level stuff (schwinn traveler, raliegh olympian you get the picture). I said "sorry, $300 is the lowest I'll go". He gets visibly pissed and leaves. NO SALE. Lesson learned. Reposted.

I have decided NOT to sell! Very Happy

She has Campy F&R derailleurs, shifters, hubs and qr skewers.

Feel free to leave any thoughts or comments. Do you feel the pricing is inline? I may consider shipping to an established forum member.

$350 for that bike?! Totally fair price!!! You'd get 2x that if you parted it out. The Crankset alone would go for over $100. Your prospective buyer was an idiot.

I concur, he probably was going to try and flip it anyway. The right buyer will come along

So I am keeping the Gitane. I was able to get the money to buy my son the cyclocross bike. It is CRAZY Shocked what people will pay for things on ebay. I sold 2 Simplex Super LJ rear derailleurs, A front Super LJ derailleur and a set of 1st gen retrofriction shifters and after paying ebay's 10 percent netted $540. Thanks members for your kind words of encouragement.

Lucky you to have those parts - the Super LJ's and retrofriction shifters have definitely been bringing crazy money. I don't even look at them.

Glad you can keep the Gitane. They are great riding bikes!

I like the pictures. Nice bike, nice piano, hardwood floors . . . Obviously a man of refined tastes. Cool

Thanks Russ,

The bike is mine.
The piano is my wife's
The hardwood floors are my wife's

She lets me live here but I have to share the bed

I wear the pants around here... but she picks them out for me.

Cheers, Ken
