Forgive my ignorance, but what kind of bar tape gives you that shiny look? Kind of looks like they used Benotto cello tape.

dear lofter, dear chas, dear all others
really nice collections, my respect
lofter a question to your 83 - is the race number holder cut away? or not
there?
I am not sure if it is a team pro - the frame number is not really typical
may be something like a super corsa for the us market?
The early 83s Modolo master pro brake levers which were used in the team were not drilled.
Did anyone know if the team used the team pro for tts? and did they used
a stronglight full closed big chain wheel?
Which date is your profie?
Chas i really love your 1960s 70s gitanes, specially the 60s are hard to find.
I love Gtanes but either i am collecting other old bikes and have to much projects which were on progress and not finished - shame.
gitanes
83 team pro - 01.03.83
83 team pro - 04.03.83
i think they are hanging together when they were produced and know
they are together again
81 profile - july 81 - missing the mavic 80mm front hub - 580 cx to finish
others
1991 Panasonic pr 5000, 600 ultegra
1981 Berma Professional, fully chromed, super record
1981 Moser Professional, super record, famcucine light blue
1977 technobull, great and creative german frame builder - günther sattler
he build together with christian smolic in 1981 a 6 kg racebike with 8 speed cassette and integrated brake levers with shift levers
1960 Grunewald, with altenburger derailleurs and stuff
1958 Bauer modell of the world champion 1952, huret louison bobet
1957 Bismarck modell tony merckens, juy 543
mid 50s Tigra Professional - build by Cilo
early mid 50s bike of the french professional marcel bareth - ?cnc special?
frame weight 1640g in size 55 center top - bareth wins the 6 days in boston one time
1951 Hellyett special, only the frame and some parts
1950 Dürkopp Diana
and some single framesets
but i have to say i specially love the old french bikes and stuff
but you know there is the problem with the money to buy all the nice stuff
show you some pictures next time if someone is interested

yes it has the number tab , the decals r crappy too and not the right ones . yes those drilled modolo levers r from my professional set not the master pros . seat post is 26.6 . maybe they used the reg frame for a mountain tt ? the cranks would have been the stronglight 107's . with a optional closed chain ring for a tt. the mavic 80mm hubs r hard to come by. I have a 32 hole for the profile track frame im building and I have a extra 36 hole road hub . actually there both road hubs as I will have to tap the 32 for the allen bolts for the track. im keeping the 36 for now until I can get a lockring made to fit on the mavic hub. the bike in the catalog has 10 pitch cranks and cog on mavic hubs . I need the 10 pitch lockring for the mavic hub to be French thread to let the chain fully seat on the pitch ten cog. does that have your head spinning ? ive never seen a French thread lockring. probably a special made one from mavic like the special made stem that looks like a bmx stem.
im going out in the garage and take some good pics for you to check out . plus im going to have a black n tan yeungling beer while im out there Wink check back shortly .

number tab

front brazeon

simplex drops

chrome under paint chip I guess it does have it Smile

whats left of colombus decal

chromed chain stay, team pros have them

bb numbers off the 81 road profile

81 track profile , no numbers , might be under the stupid paint job

the mavic 80mm 36 hole road hub

belleri funky track bars

with all that, pretty sure its a 83 team pro . don't know on the bb numbers . they've always been very confusing , maybe its a real team bike . I like the ring of the line Wink but who knows . I need to buy the decal set off English ebay that has the correct seat tube decal .

professional set nos

stonglight 107 cranks with tt ring and reg 53 tooth ring mallaird galli pedals

spare derailleurs and shifters

original hoods that I took off levers on the bike put yellow hoods on as my personal touch . I didn't paint the bike yellow grrr

and after all this , im having one of these.mmmmmm good.

All this talk of Team Pros, I had to take my 1984 out for a spin today. What a great riding bike! Cool

I got my frame in a swap with another Forum member.

He bought a complete Campy equipped 55cm 1984 Team Pro. It was almost NOS but it was too small for him.

I had a NOS 1985-86 Professional frame. It was advertised as a 57cm but turn out to be a 58cm - too big for me.

1984 Team Pros were used by Gitane Teams with 3 different component groups: Campagnolo Super Record, Mavic and Spidel.

I decided to build mine up pretty much Spidel. I used a Stronglight 105bis crankset instead of the Stronglight/Spidel 106 or 107. The 106/107 cranks used the same size 144 BCD chainrings as Campy cranks.

A 42T chainring was the smallest standard for 144 BCD cranks (there were some rare144 BCD 41T chainrings).

I used a 37T on my Stronglight 105 cranks. I also had a NOS Stronglight titanium BB that I installed in my Team Pro.

The other non Team Pro components are the MAFAC which were made by Modolo.

I have a NOS set of sewup wheels that I need to finish building - Spidel/Maillard 700 hubs and Mavic SC rims.

BTW, I got some new French Columbus decals from Greg at Cyclomondo.

The yellow paint was on there when i bought the frame . I bought this frame 83 and a 84 together . Someone probably thought it was cool to put yellow to honor the tour win i guess . Its just awfull . But i havent wanted to flip over 4 to 600 to repaint it. So thats why i bought the yellow modolo brake covers. Now onto yeungling. Love the stuff. Cant get it here in illinois either. I have to drive to tenn or ohio to get it. Closest states that distribute it. Im partial to the porter and the dark n tan which is a mix of their premium and porter. Definately good stuff . They just came out with a seasonsl wheat beer for summer i got tto try

1984 Team Pro Ride

I had my 1984 Team Pro out on Monday again.

The ride isn't as smooth as on my 1984 Super Corsa and TdF bikes. All 3 models have the same frame geometry. The tubing wall thickness is about the same between the Super Vitus 983 tubing used on the SC and TdF versus the Columbus SL tubes on the Team Pro so the ride should be about the same.

I figured out why when I looked closely at the front wheel. Confused

I used an almost new set of 700c clincher wheels that I bought on eBay - Campy NR/SR hubs with Mavic MA3 rims plus DT stainless spokes.

I never bothered to check out or count the spokes. Rolling Eyes

Turns out that they're 32 spoke wheels. The front wheel has heavy straight gage spokes with 2 cross spoking and the rear is standard 3 cross!

I prefer 36 hole small flange hubs with 4 cross spoking with butted light gage spokes in the front and heavier straight gage spokes in the rear.

The switch to 32 spoke wheels in the early 80s was a cost saving move by many bike manufacturers.

If you built 100,000 sets of wheels that's 200,000 less spokes needed. Also a savings in assembly time not having to thread and adjust all of those spokes!

I'm going to trow on some different wheels which should give a smoother ride!

One advantage of 36 spoke wheels is if you ever break a spoke they're easier to adjust than lower spoke count wheels so you can make it home OK.

With a 28 or lower spoke count wheel, you're SOL! Crying or Very sad
