Based on what I'm reading on the forum, this is perhaps a 70's model? I'm curious as to the year/history. Markings say "Gitane Europeen" in Sport Orange. Seat is probably not original - anything else?

Looks like original rack and color-matched fenders, it is in very nice, rideable shape.

Great commute/around town bike. I may be parting with it soon - if anyone is interested or has suggestions on where to advertise it, please let me know.

Thank you!

Based on the decals, it looks like a pre 1968 Hosteller model. It was probably made for the UK market because it has a "lantern" mounting bolt on the left fork blade to attach a light of some sort.

WHY part it out?

All of the components are entry level parts that have little or no resale value on their own. Most of those kinds of parts get thrown away!!! Evil or Very Mad

The bike is a rarity. If you want to sell it, put it on eBay as a complete bike. You'll get more interest and more money for it.

DON'T even mention that you want to use the frame for a FIXIE! Evil or Very Mad

A pox on you if you do! There are plenty of junkers out there that you can get for $25.00!

This is a 46+ year old classic purpose built bike! Don't mess it up! Mad Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes

Excellent - thank you for the information - I had no idea it was so old. It is still in amazing shape. (note that I'm merely "parting" with the bike as I need the space for another one, and agree that it should be kept whole and intact).

Great Wink

Good luck selling it. You might try putting in on Craigslist first.

At the low end, it should bring $150-175, the high end $200-300.

Here's an odd note - you know that British-style lamp bracket mounted on the left fork blade? It's on the LEFT fork blade, i.e., where it should be mounted on a bike ridden on the right side of the road, unlike EVERY British bike I've ever seen or owned with a fork blade lamp mount affixed to the right fork blade for riding on the left side of the road.

Neat bike, and it probably would make for a lovely article of a marketing choice that is ALMOST perfect ...
