Hello All,
Since I finished the rebuild on my " Resurrection " Gitane and posted some pictures, I'm checking out the site daily, exchanged a few messages with verktyg about our obsession, seems we both have quite a few vintage bikes hanging around.

I normally look every day, sometimes every other day, but don't sign-in unless I reply to something.

I'm a recovering GitaneUSA addict, so fewer visits or posts these days, but I still lurk around the old catalogue section..... Wink

Besides, someone has to keep Verktyg and Lofter honest! Twisted Evil

I'm here looking most days. I'm an addict for cool bike pictures, and I learn a lot from the tech and history items.

It's also like a big family. Sometimes with the "brothers" trying to bug each other, but what are families for? Laughing

I'm a newcomer--just joined a couple of months ago--and only own one Gitane (a 1970s service course tdf that I found discarded at my town landfill) but this forum has already been a great source of info and entertainment. I usually check in here once a week or so. I can definitely see the allure of these quirky bikes....

To those of you who own lots of them--do you ride them regularly? I have about a half dozen bikes and I start to feel neglectful if any one of them hangs on the wall for a long time. And do you have wives? What do they think of your obsession?

That can be a loaded question. Way back when, I bought a bike before I bought my girlfriend (now my wife) a ring. She stilll keeps me around . . .

for me i dont ride them regularly enough . i was 238 last feb. i started playing frisbee golf . fell in love with the game and much better than reg ball golf. i walked up and down the hills at our local park . as of right now im 198 and holding that weight . its been about fifteen years since i was under 200.i told myself that when i break 200 i would start to ride more of my bikes . like the profile and i have a vitus carbone 9 i want to ride. i was afraid of breaking frames like stephan did on that 87 t pro . between work personal life and my harley it really is tough to set aside time to ride. but im going to work on that tho .
as far as the wife goes , she used to hate my bikes , she's warming up to them . she likes the mini farthing and the triple and the delta. oh i got the you cant ride them all at once comment. she sees what im doing with the collection and where its going too. im starting to go the collectibles route right now . anything with gitane on it . i missed on a set of gitane wingnuts last night . would have went all in on them but i bought bir hakiems 85 pro the other day so didnt have the coin to bid like i wanted to . thats my situation in a nutshell Very Happy

Back in 1980 a former fiancée paramor said something to the effect that I had a choice, the bikes or her!

A simple "Gee I'm gonna miss you!" ended that discussion! Laughing

(What she really meant was that she wanted me to fix several of her girlfriends up with bikes! - Say what you mean, mean what you say!) Rolling Eyes

I need one of those T-shirts---actually my wife is pretty supportive---but my stable is small in comparison with yours.

Going for a ride---sunny & calm and almost 65 in Salina this afternoon.
