Hey guys, my Team Pro headset keeps loosening up. What's a decent replacement? And I know it's 1" but do I need to be aware of any other special "Gitane-y" funkiness?

Welcome to the Forum.

A helpful suggestion, there is a wealth of knowledge available in the Forum Archives.

Click on Search and look under headset and so on.

Scroll down through this message thread and you will find a lot of information on Gitane headsets.

Thanks guys! I figured it was a standard 1" but after reading about Gitane's penchant for oddities I figured I would make sure before buying anything. The current (original?) headset is a Spiedel. I think something shiny will look nice on the frame.

Did you try some lock-tite on it? You can get the type that doesn't "freeze" the joints (forget if that's the blue or the red).

Stephan, I thought about that also. I do have some of the blue (non-permanent) Loctite. It's either that, a new HS or carrying around my wrenches...

Chad,

The messages above were supposed to be attached to this thread. I posted another response.

Try adding a spacer between the lock nut and the adjustable cup. From the picture I couldn't see a spacer and I know that the A9 headsets all came with one from the factory. If the bike had a reflector fitted at some point the spacer will have been thrown away.
You really shouldn't need to use Loctite.
