I've been using Bike Ribbon bar tape and found the yellow is pretty close to some of the old Gitane photos. The yellow is garish bright but real comfy! This was some shiny rayon? cloth tape that I got from the UK. It looked great when new but started fraying in a short amount of time. He has every color... I bought from him twice. First package took 2 months to reach home but overall, very nice stuff ! Use Benotto. Use rubber cement underneath it to hold it in place. Here's my fake Gitane (a 2003 Trek re-spray). First 2 pictures were taken in the summer 2008. Nice and elegant but kind of translucid. These are from this morning, sorry for the crappy weather. From what I can tell the tape has been on these bars since maybe 1979! The bike is like new and everything else is factory standard so the tape might have been put on at the factory too.
