Here's a very nice Gitane indeed. Possibly late '70s / early '80s and possibly 531p, but does look rather like sl but it's tough to say (any further thoughts/ideas?) and with some terrific components too. It looks to have an old sticker just above the levers indicating a connection (or shop) with Toulouse.

The photography's not too great.

Tim,

That's a sticker for Reynolds 531SL tubing which morphed into Reynolds 531P Professional tubing the the early 80s.

The curious thing about this bike is the seat tube sticker on the chainstay??? Confused

Also the Reynolds stickers were usually on the down tube at the shift levers.

These pictures are of a 1979 "Pro" model that was imported into the US.

Tim,

Interesting, this bike didn't show up on my eBay Gitane search yesterday???

I cleaned up the pictures a little...

I think that it's a late 70s "Professional" model.

Your link was to eBay UK. When I saw this electrical outlet, I thought something wasn't right then I saw the bike is in Texas. Those MTB pedals got to go!

Too bad then frame is too small for me... Crying or Very sad

Thanks Chas, I've updated the URL to the US site which is now in line with the sockets.

The cleaned up images look much better and good to know that it's a late '70s model. Nice 1st generation SR rear changer but those pedals definitely have to go.
